Privacy statement
Last updated: 12 August 2026
This statement describes what the ArtAboveTech mobile app does with your data. It is short because the app does very little with it: there is no ArtAboveTech account, no ArtAboveTech server, and no analytics or advertising.
What is stored, and where
All of the following is stored only on your own phone:
- The speakers you have added: their name, network address, unique identifier and model.
- Your recently played tracks, shown on the app's home screen.
- App settings such as language and appearance.
- If you connect Spotify: your Spotify access and refresh tokens, kept in the operating system's secure storage.
Removing the app from your phone removes all of it. Nothing is copied to us.
Your Wi-Fi password
During setup the app asks for your Wi-Fi password so it can hand it to the speaker. It is sent directly to the speaker over its temporary setup network and is not saved by the app, not written to logs, and not sent anywhere else. It is cleared from memory once setup finishes, is cancelled, or fails.
The speaker's setup protocol transmits the password over an unencrypted local connection. That is a limitation of the speaker hardware. Someone monitoring that temporary setup network could observe it, so perform setup in a place you trust.
Spotify
Connecting Spotify is optional. If you do, you sign in with Spotify directly; the app never sees your Spotify password. The resulting tokens stay in your phone's secure storage and are used only to read your playlists for display in the app. You can disconnect at any time from Settings, which deletes those tokens.
Controlling playback does not require connecting Spotify. Spotify's own privacy policy applies to what Spotify does with your listening.
Permissions the app asks for
- Location and nearby Wi-Fi devices: Android requires these before an app may list Wi-Fi networks. The app uses them to find your speaker's setup network. It does not collect or store your location.
- Local network access: to find and control speakers on your own network.
Sharing
Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with third parties. The only outbound connections the app makes are to your speaker on your own network, and — if you connected it — to Spotify.
Your rights
Because the data stays on your device, you control it directly: remove a speaker in the app, disconnect Spotify in Settings, or uninstall the app. If you have questions about this statement, use the contact details on the support page.
